Better Realities are what fundamentally draw us as players to games.  In the magic circle of the creative work, we can experience worlds that are different from our own: clearer, more intelligible, more controllable.  More than mere escapism, they provide an opportunity to play out our fantasies and our fears within a more manageable context.

Over the last couple of decades, I have worked to create realities that players want to inhabit, but also teams that game developers want to inhabit.  The games industry, unfortunately, is full of opportunities to do better than our current state.  By applying engagement principles from games to game development, it is possible to improve on existing techniques to build sustainable, engaging, and rewarding environments.

Better Realities is my consulting practice that helps to bring both of these frames of reality to fruition.
